LAREDO, TX – October 12, 2026 – October is National Principals Month, and H.B. Zachry Elementary is celebrating its dedicated principal, Dr. Lilia Mora, with a special week filled with appreciation, kindness, and heartfelt gestures from students and staff.
From October 13–16, the Zachry Zebra family will come together to recognize Dr. Mora for her leadership, dedication, and commitment to creating a positive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.
To make the celebration extra special, the campus has organized a fun-filled Principal's Week inspired by Dr. Mora's favorite things. Each day will feature a unique theme, giving students and staff an opportunity to express their gratitude in thoughtful and creative ways.
The celebration kicks off on Tuesday, October 13, with "Sip, Sip, Hooray!" Students and staff are invited to show their appreciation through Dr. Mora's favorite drinks, including Coke Zero, iced sugar-free German Chocolate from 7 Brew, and Diet Half & Half from Chick-fil-A. Students can also participate by creating handmade thank-you cards.
On Wednesday, October 14, "A Sweet & Spicy Thank-You!" will highlight some of Dr. Mora's favorite treats and snacks, including Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Dove milk chocolate, Gushers with chile, Rancheritos, and Sabritones. Students will also have the opportunity to create sweet drawings and participate in a schoolwide celebration of kindness.
Thursday, October 15, will feature "Stuck on Our Amazing Principal!" in recognition of Dr. Mora's love for stickers, stationery, arts and crafts, and all things creative. Students can design bookmarks or handmade crafts to brighten her day.
The celebration will conclude on Friday, October 16, with "Your Favorite Things Friday!" Students and staff can celebrate Dr. Mora's love for reading, plants, books, and creativity through handmade drawings, cards, and other thoughtful gestures. Students are also encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing zebra pride attire.
Throughout the week, the celebration will emphasize that appreciation does not have to come in the form of gifts. Handmade cards, kind words, creative artwork, and simple acts of gratitude are meaningful ways to recognize the important role Dr. Mora plays in the school community. All participation is completely optional.
As principal of H.B. Zachry Elementary, Dr. Mora plays an essential role in guiding the campus, supporting teachers and staff, building relationships with families, and inspiring students to reach their fullest potential. Her leadership reflects the school's theme, "Adventure Awaits: Every Day Is a New Journey at H.B. Zachry Elementary," reminding students that every school day brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
National Principals Month provides an opportunity to recognize the hard work, dedication, and countless responsibilities school principals take on each day. At H.B. Zachry Elementary, the celebration is also a reminder of the strong sense of family and community that makes the campus special.
